Simple Easy Chana Dal Vada

Chana dal Vada, Paruppu vada is traditional south indian recipe.This vada is famous for tea time snacks because of its flavour and crispness. This one easy to make vada for any beginner in cooking.

Chana dal is loaded with good source of nutrition.Including this vada as snack is healthy choice. You can use chana vada for pooja (avoid garlic)and potluck

While starting , i used to make chana vada for evening snack for long years, nowadays moved the snack time vada into lunch time vada along with rasam or variety rice on saturday. Here are reason to make vad for weekend lunch menu.

1. You can eat vada very less number (you are in diet) along with your family and you have rest of the day time to utilize energy to burn that the calorie.

2. If you make vada for snack then high chance of eating too much vada and the time for utilizing the energy is very low.

3. Mostly , if you are in diet then you need to load with healthy protein in the time between 3 to 5 pm to get energy for the rest of the evening time.

4. If You make vada for lunch time then, you can tell your taste bud that no deep fried vada for the evening time because you already done for the day in the lunch time.

5. After 6 pm you are not with heavy food thats the key point.

Chana dal vada for lunch and snack time recipe

Make the nutrition rich ,tasty vada along with spices .

Equipment

  • deep frying pan, mixing bowl,small mixie jar, long ladle.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Chana dal
  • 1/2 tsp Fennel seeds(sombu)
  • 2 medium Garlic
  • 3 to 4 number Dried Red chilli
  • 1 medium Onion(chopped into fine
  • 1 tblsp Coriander leaves
  • 1 sprig Curry leaves
  • Oil for deep frying
  • salt as needed

Instructions

  • Wash chana dal with water and soak it for 1 hour in a bowl.
  • After one hour ,drain the water completely and separate into plate.
  • Take small mixie jar , add the peeled garlic, dried red chilli , fennel seeds ,salt and 2tblp of drained chana dal. Grind together coarsely by mixing in between without adding add any water.Check the dal is binding together in you palm.
    Transfer to wide bowl.
  • Now ,add the remaining drained chana dal , grind it coarsely without adding water.Like pulse it a few time to get coarse dal.
  • Collect all the grinded dal in wide bowl and then add finely chopped onion,coriander leaves,curry leaves. Give nice mix together.
  • Taste for salt and spice level and adjust accordingly.
  • Make small balls and flatten it to a good vada shape in your palm and smooth the edges.
  • On medium flame ,heat oil in deep pan .
  • Divide the vada dough into desired numbers .Medium you can make 12 numbers.
  • Check oil is hot enough by gently dropping small portion of vada dough to the oil.
  • The dough must rise without resting on the bottom of the oil.
  • In good hot oil , gently slide the vada one by one
  • Makesure ,the dough is having enough space to cook without overlapping.
  • Cook vada o both sides till golden brown color and drain on paper towel
  • Serve hot vada for lunch time along with rasam ,variety rice or as evening snack.
