The good part of gestational diabetes is you can control with protein rich food and moderate exercise on daily basis.

You can simple control gestational diabetes by simply following good lifestyle routine. Developing healthy eating habits and taking control of your weight gain is most important to control GD. First step – to avoid any sugary food or food that will increase the blood sugar level and food that are high in carbohydrate.

Depends on your sugar level, Your Health care provider will give you list of food items and there calorie detail and how much hour of exercise you will need each day to keep your sugar in control.

Increasing protein rich food like vegetables,fruits and dhal will help you to control the gestational diabetes.

Start write GD Diary(notebook)

You are under the pressure of happiness and worry because of this gestational diabetes during pregnancy and it’s totally normal.

Though your health care provider gives you the information , 95% to control GD on your hand . You have to monitor every food you eat per every meal to track and to control your sugar level .

Make a GD note book or GD diary ,write , write down all your food habit and fitness habit in note book or diary before your GD and after GD food habits every day , this will help you to understand what food habits and fitness changes you have to make to control gestational diabetes.

Making note/ diary of your food habit and your sugar value after each meal- will help you in lots of way.

You can easily compare your sugar value and identify for which food and exercise your sugar value are in control and other hand its not in control .You can adjust or change that on particular food or you can increase particular time excercise to stay more focused on your sugar level in control

Writing will be highly helpful when you visit your healthcare provider. If the values are in control then you can follow your own diet and exercise plan or if the values are not in control then your health care provider will help to find another diet chart or prescribe for insulin to control the sugar level.

You no need to eat for Two .Most indian community say ,once girl become pregnant ,she has to eat for Two. With GD ,the game changes, the amount or portion you eat during GD is not for two or enough for normal single portion !!compare normal meal portion.

The reality with GD -you are going to reduce the every meal portion size and it highly depends on each person.

When you start the routine of GD ,you might feel lots of tiredness and frequent hungry .That’s totally normal, because you are suddenly reducing the portion size.It will take a week or two to follow the GD diet routine.

What Food to avoid to control Gestational Diabetes.

1.Sugary food : Avoid or stay away from any kind of sugary food starting from cake,chocolate,sweets and cup of coffee with sugar.

2 .Starchy food and limit the portion size : You must control the portion size of carbohydrate rich food such as rice, processed flours, bread, pasta,potato.

3.Avoid carbonated drinks: Cut off drinks added with sugar which will shoot up your blood sugar level .

Food You Must Eat to Control Gestational Diabetes:

Healthy Protein: Include Protein which will help you to feel full with gestational diabetes.

You have plenty choices to prepare healthy protein rich food such as paneer , any kind dal, Oats,Tofu . For Non-Veg like Egg,Fish and poultry are best source of protein.

Vegetables : Include high fiber content veggies on daily basis like beans, mushrooms, carrots, green leaves or simple go green on your meal plate.

Fruits: Choose low sugar fruits for snack time best to eat in small portion.

Drink Lots of Water: Dehydration will leads to rise in your blood sugar level. So keep bottle full of water always near you . Water will keep you full in between your meal time.

Fiber Rich Foods: Fiber rich food are best because the absorption of food is slow and that will prevent the spike in blood sugar level.

Healthy Fats: Healthy fats are must during gestational diabetes like avocados, olive oil, salmon , chia seeds, fish.

Really for any pregnant women ,GD is biggest task to cross 3 or all 9 month .

Once you crossed the pregnancy with GD. You never regret for all those diet and exercise , because it make you more healthy and strong during your pregnancy and after pregnancy no need to worry about weight loss. You feel good for all the struggles and diet you went through your pregnancy.
