Cabbage Dumplings

Dumplings are originated from China . Making dumpling for breakfast is tradition followed during chinese new year. Dumpling are thin dough wrapping with stuffings like vegetable along with herbs or meat of choice with herbs.

Chinese people make dumpling on daily basis. Dumplings are more similar to south indian idli dosa recipe in chinese tradition. Depends on the type of filling you are using , you can make dumplings for breakfast , lunch ,snack or for dinner .

My kids love this cabbage filled dumplings for evening snack , i’m so happy that they can eat some of the vegetable with their own wish.Making dumplings for evening snack is really healthy option .

In my college days, tasted the chicken dumplings in the name of momos.Im not big fan of dumplings later years, but now because of my kids started to make and taste the healthy chinese recipe at home .

Mother with kids age above 1 to 2 year , if you have helping hands or if you plan ahead like making dough a day before and preparing the stuffing when your baby sleep , then you can make this for beautiful evening snack recipe.

Plan this recipe along with your idli menu . It need steamer (idli pan).

Mommies with kids age above 5 years, get your kids help to make dough and to make shape . Kids love to do the dough preparation and stuffing. Be ready to cleanup back with the little extra mess.

Easy Healthy Snack recipe – Cabbage Dumplings

Kids love this vegetable filled dumpling for evening snacks time.

Equipment

  • Steamer(idli pan),bowl.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Grated Cabbage
  • 1 medium Onion(finely chopped)
  • 1 tsp Grated garlic
  • 1 tsp Pepper
  • 1 tsp Oil or butter
  • Salt to taste

For make dought

  • 1 cup Maida ( all purpose flour)
  • Salt as needed
  • Oil as needed

Instructions

STUFFING PREPARATION

  • Heat wide pan in medium flame, add oil , garlic and onion saute till onion turns transparent color , add cabbage with required salt , Pepper and saute for 10 to 15 minute till the moisture evaporate.
  • Keep aside the cabbage stuffing to cool down .

Make the Dough

  • Gently mix all purpose flour along with salt and oil to semi stiff dough consistency. The dough should not be very soft else the rolling and stuffing part will be tough.
  • Allow the dough to rest for 15 to 30 minutes.

Dumpling and Steaming

  • Take small amount of dough , roll on a greased surface .Dust the flour as needed to make nice base for dumpling. Add add a tsp of cabbage stuffing and seal all the sides and make for all other dough with stuffing.
  • Once the dumplings are ready.Allow the steamer to boil and grease the steamer plate with oil and arrange the dumplings on top of the plate.
  • Keep the plate on the boiling steamer and cover cook for 10 minutes.
  • The dumpling become little transparent after 10 minutes of cooking.Switch off the flame and allow to cool down .
  • Gently transfer the dumplings from the steamer to the plate.
  • Serve cabbage dumpling with ketchup/red chilli sauce.
