How to make Homemade Cake Pops Recipe with little helpers!!

CAKE are never ending love for kids and grown ups. Cake pops are another fun way to enjoy the cake. The every bite of outside hard coated candy outside and inside super soft, textured cake will definitely give a treat for your taste buds.

Our Cake Pops Story

For Abhinav and Reya – Cake pops are one the most favourite recipe that we make in home. Exactly five year ago, First time made this cake pops for Reya first birthday, since then it became our every year kids birthday special baking recipe.

For Reya first birthday party , tried this cake pops recipe, after making kids to sleep started to make this recipe with candy melts.

Spend one whole night in kitchen because with kids i can’t spent much time in kitchen and the baking , crumbling , freezing all went messy and it took lot of time and energy.

Is it Worth the time and effort?

The whole kitchen workplace is filled with microwave cups, baking sheet, cake flour and cake crumbs. But the interest to learn the recipe keep me motivated.

Made the cake and the step toward making cake pops was fine but the candy melt and coating to cake pops took lots of time .

If i dip the pops into candy melt, it will stick with candy melt or else the candy melt will become dry just for 2 to 3 cake pops.

Almost 30 to 40 cake pops are waiting to get the candy melt coating on that day night.

With lots of mes , finally made the coating for all pops and decorated with pink sprinkle and white sprinkle . Since that is birthday theme color. Made all cake pops ready for Reya First Birthday Party.

All those night work paid off, the next day when Abhinav amazed to see the cake pops on our countertop and Reya just loved every bite of the cake at the age of one.Homemade cake pops are first in our birthday party list.

Now, to my wonder both of the kids are showing interest in making cake pops all by themself . I just guided them to make all of the cake pops from the scratch.

Candy melt took lots of time and endup messy for making cake pops, so i kept searching for an best alternative to candy melts.

Good thing one of my friend told that almond bark works good for making cake pops. Still it is messy but not like candy melts, almond bark are better to coat cake pops.

For Parents who are in Diet!!

Candy melts or almond bark both are loaded with lots of sugar which is fine for kids to eat and one or two will not disturb your diet – mom or dad.

Grownup loved this cake pops. So, instead of coating cake balls with sugary candy melts , just make cake balls with frosting and serve with cupcake cups. It will become signature cake balls .

Just taste single candy coated cake pops and then have few of you cake balls.

It will increase your weight, so prepare yourself to do extra exercise or not to check your weight for at least 2 days.

If you want to try with small kids below 3 years, then preplan your cake pops recipe.

Then , make the cake 3 days ahead , frosting 2 days ahead and make the cake balls one day ahead and finally make the cake balls frosting on the function or before 8 to 9 hour of serving.

Equipment

  • wide mixing bowl, any baking pan, spatula, microwave safe bowl or pyrex glass measuring cup.

Ingredients

  • Vanilla cake
  • 3 to 4 tblsp Vanilla Buttercream frosting
  • wax paper or parchment sheet
  • 30 sticks 41/2 inch long lollipop sticks
  • 1 Pack almond bark (vanilla or chocolate flavor)
  • Styrofoam or Florist Foam/cardboard box (for drying cake pops)
  • Cake decorative sprinkle.

Instructions

Making Cake Pops

    Vanilla cake and Frosting texture

    • Vanilla cake and vanilla frosting are the base for cake pops, so make the vanilla cake ,allow it to cool down completely.
    • You might need 2 to 3 tbsp of vanilla frosting . Make one cup of frosting and you can fridge the remaining frosting.
    • Vanilla frosting used as sticking agent for cake pops. So make sure you make fresh and thicker side of vanilla frosting and it should not be watery.
    • Texture of vanilla cake and frosting are more important. You are going to make cake balls and that has to stick with pop stick without running down or split apart.

    Making Cake Pops

    • Once your Vanilla cake and frosting are ready.
    • Crumble down the vanilla cake with spoon or with hand into small crumbs. Do the crumbling very gently, batch wise if you are using 2 cakes and don't be too hard or squish the cake.
    • Once you crumbled all the cake into small scrumbs now add one by one tbsp of vanilla frosting . If your cake is moist enough then you might need 2 tbsp of frosting to make the balls. If you not add enough frosting the cake will fall apart and if you add extra frosting the cake ball will not stand on the pop stick.
    • Spread the frosting and combine all the cake together gently with frosting to make soft moisture rich cake balls.
    • Now make the cake balls out of the cake mixture. Make big or medium size cake balls which can stand in the pop stick.
    • Place the cake pops in parchment sheet or wax paper lined baking sheet or tray.
    • You can make 25 to 40 cake balls depends on your cake size and the size of your call balls.Cove the baking sheet with plastic wrap and place it in the refrigerator for 1 to 2 hour, so the cake balls become firm. Be don't keep in freezer it might make crack in your cake pops.
    • After 1 to 2 hours, take out one batch of cake balls like 10 to 15 once and melt the almond barks which is another important and little messy step in making cake pops.
    • Make sure, your styrofoam or florist foam or any other drying rack is ready to dry the cake pops. Once you add the almond bark ,immediately you have to keep the pops drying rack.
    • Now, Melt the almond barks in microwave safe bowl or Pyrex cup. Microwave the almond barks for 1 minute and then stir it nicely, then microwave for 30 more seconds.
    • Once you got the liquid consistency of almond bark without delay, start to coat the chilled cake pops. Insert the pop stick slowly and with help of spoon pour the almond bark around the pops.
    • Dipping the cake pops never worked better for me and always prefer to pour the bark melt by gently rotating the cake pops .
    • This almond bark work act as a sweet coating to your cake pops and so immediately add any cake decorative sprinkle on top of the almond bark coating. It will dry very soon.
    • Once you down with almond bark coating and sprinkle .Place the cake pops on drying rack to dry completely.
    • After drying , you can decorate the cake pops with melted almond bark or by attaching cake decorative using melted bark.
    • Coat all the cake pops in the same way and allow it to dry in the drying rack. You refrigerator the pops for 3 to 4 days by covering each pops with plastic cover.
    • Kids will lot more frequent visit to kitchen , to help you by tasting the cake pops.
