Kootu & Rice for kids

In this recipe spice level is so mild. Ghee topped rice with kootu are perfect for kids.

Depends on number of kids, Keep cup of rice only for kids and for lunch.

You can add egg omelet or fried vathal.

Since this kootu rich of protein , mix match your carb mindfully with added pinch of your favourite ghee or pickle or any you like without damaging your health.

How To Make Chow Chow Kootu ,

Take all grinding ingredients in mixie jar,

Grind everything to smooth paste

Combine Moong dal and chow chow in pressure cooker with needed salt and cook till 3 whistles.

Add 1/2 cup of water and grinded coconut paste to cooked dal & chow chow, cook for 10 minutes.

Seasoning – mustard seeds, urad dal, red chilli, curry leaves.

Chow Chow Kootu Ready . Serve hot with ghee and rice or with chapathi & cucumber curd.

Ingredients

Ingredients needed

  • 1 Cup Moong dal or Toor Dal or mix of both dals
  • 1 medium Chow chow
  • a pinch Turmeric powder
  • salt to taste

Ingredients for Grinding

  • 1/2 cup Coconut
  • 2 tblsp Fried Gram
  • 1 tblsp Cumin Seeds/Jeera
  • 1 no. Red Chilli

For the seasoning

  • 1 tsp oil
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds &split urad dal
  • 1 string Curry leaves
  • 1/4 tsp Hing/Asafoetida
  • 2 red chilli

Instructions

  • Grind coconut , jeera ,red chilli and fried gram with little water to paste.Keep it aside
  • Peel the skin and remove the seed and chop the chow chow to small cubes.
  • In pressure cooker , wash and add the moong dal along with chopped chow chow , turmeric , salt and pressure cook for 3 whistles.
  • Once the pressure released, open the cooker and hen add grounded coconut paste, 1/2 cup of water and bring it to boil.
  • Heat 1 tsp of oil, add mustard seeds, urad dal ,red chilli , hing and curry leaves and coriander leaves.
  • Pour the seasoning on top of the kootu.
  • Serve hot with rice or chapati
