Dallas for all Season

Our view of the Dallas area has changed after the Covid life. Yes, as we explored more road trips near our home, we explored activities for every season around Dallas.

Before the view of Dallas there was like no activity for kids nearby , no places to engage kid outdoors in Dallas. We have to drive 3 to 4 hour to San Antonio or Houston to enjoy a long holiday or by flying to another state and so on.

But all those changed just in one year of exploring places near the Dallas area.

Yes, We are coming up with another interesting seasonal place to visit by kids and families near the Dallas area at 30 to 45 min drive.

Interestingly, we came to know about spring strawberry picking at a 30 min drive, with all covid safety protection we reached the farm at the right time. Here we are sharing our experience and things you have to prepare before visiting the farm.

Strawberry Picking Farm,

If you are staying nearby to Dallas, Frisco, Prosper, Little Elm ,Plano, Allen , Collin or Denton County then this Pecan Strawberry picking Farm at Pilot point, one of the must visit places during spring.

This place is for all ages from kids to adults and grandparents .

Since there is no online ticket booking , you have to go directly to get a ticket.

Reach Early to enter inside the gate

They open the farm by 10 am but we are there by 8.30 with 30 cars in front of us and 100s of cars behind us!!😃

Getting  into the parking lot is important to enter the farm.

If parking lot are full , you have to return back home which will disappoint everyone.

So start early, wakeup early. We started by 7.30 from home and we were in the car line for 30 min. Getting  into the parking lot is important to enter the farm.

 Start early to avoid return back without berries,

They open only 3 days a week- Monday, Wednesday and on weekends only Saturday morning  they are open.

So on Saturday, there is little rush, as the season ends the number of visitors will increase. Plan early  to pick your berries before the season ends by June 1st week!!

Plan Ahead to stay safe ,

A 100 % mask is needed, pack 2 sets of mask for everyone. Because , it will take 4 to 5 hours total time to go inside and pick your berries and to make a bill.

Bring Hand Sanitizer along with you and inside the farm.

Wear mud shoe or normal sandals , watch your feet while picking strawberries to not stick your sandals,

Bring use and throw covers to protect your car from mud, put  your mud sandals or shoe in cover and wash it at home!!

Depend on the time you arrive the farm, the standing  time will differ,

If you reach by 8.30, then you have to stand for 1hr 30 min in line and it will take 10 min to enter the farm once they start by 10 am.

Follow good social distance while standing in line and picking strawberries, there are plenty of places.

Take good breakfast and Be ready to stand in line,

Have good breakfast or bring your own food and eat inside the car while one of your family member stand in the line, 

Bring a spring jacket , since it is going to be windy and cold in the morning time.

Plan to engage your kids while standing in the line with your funny joke.

If you are coming with parents, ask them to wait in the car until the gates are open or take a foldable chair to relax while waiting in the line.

Why there is Two Line,

If you are visiting for the first time , you have to  buy a Red color bucket for strawberry picking which costs $3 .

You can keep the bucket with you and bring it every time you visit the farm.

The standing time visitor with the red bucket will be very less then the first time visitor.

So, there will be 2 standing lines.

You can buy as many buckets as you want , depending on the quantity of strawberries you’re going to pick.

How much strawberry you can pick,

Pick as much strawberry you want , these strawberries are great for making homemade strawberry jam , and we made one ,it came out just awesome.

Strawberry 1 lb = $ 6

(0.5 kg or 2 cup)

½ Pin jam $ 6

1 PINT jam $12

Strawberry Hanging Basket $ 16

PINT jam is the first one to sell out , so buy your before you start picking your berries,!!

We got 3 lb (6 cup) of strawberry and made our homemade jam and we got the farm fresh hanging basket.

The  direct farm strawberry taste so good and fresh.

Wash and refrigerate,

If you make jam the same day then wash and use or if you take one or 2 days to make jam then immediately wash your strawberries and keep it in the fridge.

The strawberries stay fresh for one or 2 days only , so make the fresh jam within a few days of picking.

How to Involve kids in this whole process,

 Here sharing how to prepare and engage kids !!

 Tell them a day before your visit, that we are going for fresh strawberry picking ,

Tell them the importance of going early and how to pack things like a mask, mud shoe, covered water bottle, spring jacket, and having breakfast to stand in line.

Explain importance of mask and social distancing while enjoying the outdoor strawberry picking.

Show them how to pick only the strawberries without damaging the plant , the way of picking good healthy strawberries,

Involving your kids to make homemade jam by washing, removing the leaf parts and chopping into cubes, even stirring the sugar with chopped berries are fun and interesting for kids to do .
